Seabird’s Bookkeeping program develops expertise in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, business software applications, payroll processing, income tax preparation and essential workplace skills to prepare graduates for entry-level administrative positions; the curriculum covers transaction recording, account reconciliation, budget creation, financial analysis, taxation, HR fundamentals and effective communication utilizing practical in-class examples and an applied work experience component; students gain real-world bookkeeping skills and knowledge paired with industry connections to launch administrative careers across diverse sectors.

Bookkeeping Program Learning Objectives:

  • Accurately record accounting transactions
  • Reconcile general ledgers and bank accounts
  • Create budgets
  • Prepare and analyze standard financial statements
  • Analyze cost behaviors and return On investment (ROI)
  • Utilize current accounting software applications
  • Record payroll transactions, pay employees and submit government remittances
  • Prepare simple income tax returns
  • Provide basic human resource management
  • Productively use MS Office including Word, Excel and Access
  • Communicate effectively using various communication channels

Prerequisites:

*Grade 12 / GED or mature student status (all transcripts must be true certified copies or originals).
*Successful completion of admission interview and entrance assessments:
  • English assessment: Minimum score 20/40
  • Math assessment: Minimum score 20/40
  • Minimum Composite score: 42/80
*Domestic applicants must provide a grade transcript with completion of the following courses with a minimum ‘C’ grade in:
  • English 11
  • Math 10
  • Math 11
If applicants do not meet these requirements, they must complete a Math Entrance Assessment.
